From the Red Carpet to the Picket Line

Hollywood's stars will need all of the positive qualities they ceaselessly identified in each other during Sunday night's entertainment-industry ego-inflation ceremony, because a dispute between the SAG and the major studios could soon render these icons of the silver screen indefinitely unemployed. Once again, this looks like a case of the internet ruining everything: the dispute centers on compensation for work intended for online viewing. We have just one question: Does the cast of "The Hills" have to join in the strike? Maybe they'll half strike, because their show appears staged and scripted but nobody exhibits any talent. Could this explain the mystery behind Spencer's bizarre hanging-over-the-mouth cowboy mustache as half of a strike beard? The only other possible explanation is that anyone in a position to call attention to the absurdity of this facial hair debacle chooses not to because Spencer is a douchebag- but that couldn't be the case.

Most Fabulous Oscars Ever

Hugh Jackman loves a musical number. While nothing so far tonight makes as alarming a blip on the gaydar as his performance at the Tony Awards, we think it's pretty obvious that something is going on here.

And what happened to clips? Why do previous award winners have to protest their love for all the actor nominees? You know what would help illustrate the inspiration for those emotions? A clip.

And the "Gay Mannequin of the Year" Award Goes To...

Justin Timberlake, according to GQ's list of the ten most stylish men in America. Maybe we're old-fashioned, but we can't help but see "most stylish man of the year" as an oxymoronical title. This is based partly on personal experience: we know a "stylish man" who prances around with women's sunglasses hanging from half-buttoned shirts and spreads bogus rumors about women as part of a desperate attempt to obscure his repressed homosexual impulses. Maybe in the interest of balance between the genders GQ's next issue should feature a list of which ten female celebrities consume the most chewing tobacco.
Apparently JT credits his fashion sense to his "stepfather....who went to work looking like Richard Gere in American Gigolo." This raises some questions: How, exactly, did JT's inspiration get away with showing up half-naked at his job? More importantly, why would a grown man's father-figure take on the image of a male prostitute in a cherished childhood memory? Gross.

On a serious note: why does society persist in these absurd attempts to inflate the egos of famous people by handing out bogus awards? We fail to see how this particular list could possibly be meant for any other purpose- such as the entertainment and education of GQ's subscribers. If the proliferation of infinitely redundant award ceremonies created by the entertainment industry so it can collectively/incestuously pat itself on the back didn't fill the void in joe-celebrity's psyche, some bullshit ranking for "cutting-edge hairdo," or "bountiful flower arrangements in home" will hardly finish the job. It's a viscous cycle, and it needs to stop.

Britney And Her Hat-Trick

Oh. My. Gahhhhhhhhh. Brit Brit totally won all 3 Video Music Awards that she was nominated for, including Video Of The Year, and she looked fantastic doing so. Bravo, Brit Brit. Bravo.

Best Male Video

Chris Brown won Best Male Video and we were introduced to the Jonas Brothers. Insanity ensued. The awards returned to Los Angeles this year after being in various cities including New York and Miami over the past ten years...being that it's the 25th anniverary of the VMA's, they brought it on home. The Jonas Brothers performed on the back lot of Universal Studios where Seinfeld and Friends filmed and like we said, insanity ensued. Photos to follow.

Best Female Video

Jamie Foxx is the first presenter and he is hammered. Totally drunk. Anyhow, the nominees are Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Mariah Carey and Jordin Sparks featuring Chris Brown. And....Brit Brit won for "Piece of Me." She thanked God, her family, her boys and her fans. Oh, and she's sitting next to her manager, Larry Rudolph. DJ AM and Travis Barker are the house band and they're freakin' rockin' it out.

Brand For Barack

The host of the VMA's, Russell Brand, just begged America to vote for Obama on behalf of the world. Bravo.

Holy Rihanna Production

So Brit Brit looked awesome and they showed a pre-taped video of her and Jonah we forgot his last name, but he was in Superbad, and it was rather funny. Rihanna is opening with the craziest dance song thing we've seen in a very long time. Photos to follow.

The MTV Video Music Awards '08

The top photo of our beloved Brit Brit was taken last week. The middle, a couple of months ago and the bottom was when she was at Mel Gibson's place. She has come a long way, baby, and tonight will be her big comeback at the VMA's (MTV 9pm). Spears is nominated for Video of the Year, Best Pop Video and Female Video of the Year for her "Piece of Me" video. If she wins, this will be her very first Moonman after being nominated 16 prior times. It has been said that she won't perform at the show, but she will definitely be opening the awards ceremony which is hosted by British personality Russell Brand. Our guess is that she will perform and it will be awesome. Rock it out, Brit. And welcome back. We missed your crazy country ass.

M is for Monday

Following her performance and 5 Grammy wins last night, Amy Winehouse gushed to the crowd in London, "I can't believe I've won five awards," she told the intimate crowd, including her mother Janis, father Mitch and older brother Alex. "It's a shame I couldn't be there to accept the awards but I'm so proud and happy that I had the opportunity to perform for the Grammys in my hometown of London with my family and friends around me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Amy celebrate with her mom, Janis, dad, Mitch, and her older brother, Alex. We have been loving Amy forever, and truly hope that she uses this opportunity to turn a corner and get herself together. We dig vintage Winehouse before all the drugs and Blake. Enjoy.

Thanks to Michael K for the awesome video of Winehouse's performance tonight. Enjoy.

Rihanna Rocks It Out

Rihanna performed "Umbrella" at the Grammy Awards, our song of last summer. Why did she cut her hair so short, though?

Winehouse Wins Again

Bravo, Amy. It was touch and go for awhile, but she managed to pull through and give a solid performance. After winning the Grammy for 'Record of the Year' she said some thanks and of course mentioned Blakie. We're working on posting her performance, so stay tuned if you missed it.

Holy Awards For Winehouse

Amy Winehouse just picked up her 2nd Grammy for 'Song of the Year' with "Rehab." Above is Kanye West's performance, if you're interested. Yes, we love blogger video.

*Update: we love it, but we're still working out the kinks. Above is Tina Turner performing, and we'll have more of her with Beyonce in a moment. Kanye just won 'Best Rap Album' so maybe he won't throw a fit tonight. We can hope.

The 2008 Grammy Awards

Carrie Underwood performed 'Before He Cheats' and Amy Winehouse won the 'Best New Artist' award. Go, Amy, go. Beyonce is performing next and then Amy later. We're kind of nervous for her.

Welcome Back Whitney

The ladies were out in full effect last night at the pre-Grammy party hosted by Clive Davis. Rihanna's "umbrella" is up against Beyonce's "irreplaceable" for Record of the Year. Amy Winehouse is up against Kanye West for Album of the Year. It is rumored that Whitney Houston will perform tonight with Alicia Keys. That would be hot. And what is up with Lohan's skin? She needs to stop.

S is for Six Nominations

The 50th Annual Grammy Awards are tonight and our girl, Amy Winehouse, is nominated for 6 awards. Initially, Amy was turned down for a US visa by the embassy in London, but then Washington approved her visa for the performance. Visa issues aside, she will perform live via satellite tonight. She is out of rehab now, or in rehab, but we do know that after a video surfaced of her smoking crack and/or heroin, she quickly entered rehab. Her husband, Blake, is still in jail, and we're grateful that Amy got over that ridiculous desire to be blonde. We were scared for a second.

That's How Long I Been On Ya'

Following the VMA's and Brit's performance, Kanye West got himself yet another AP news story with an outburst backstage. He totally freaked out that he didn't win any of the 5 awards he was up for and was screaming that he was done with MTV and "give a black man a chance." He was pissed that he performed in the Hugh Hefner suite while everybody else performed on the main stage. To his credit, he and Alicia Keys saved the entire show and much of what he said did make since. He also said MTV used Britney and he should've opened with the above song, Stronger. While he does need to simmer down just a lil' bit, his album, Graduation, and the above song, Stronger, are #1 in the country, crushing Fiddy's release. Enjoy.

Brit Hosts Calling Hours For Her Career

This is one of those things that you need to see to believe. If you have already seen Britney's lip-synching "I don't give a shit" performance from the VMA's, then don't torture yourself again by watching the above clip. Rest In Peace.

The 2007 MTV Video Music Awards

The VMA's are on right now for "one time only" and we must say that we were thoroughly disappointed by the Britney performance. They had a new award - the major song of the year and Rihanna won for 'Umbrella' which was cool. Justin Timberlake won the award for triple threat of the year (singing, acting, clothing line) and he always rocks. We posted the above pic of Alicia Keys and Fiddy Cent because host Sarah Silverman made a great joke during her opening monologue which referred to 50, and Alicia is semi-hosting. Also...they were at the Rock Honors holding hands. Cute.
